There are several attempts made on the life of the coroner. Ruth Whitman is found hiding in a grandfather-clock\, holding the gem box. She claims the box was pushed into her hands and she was pushed into the clock. The district attorney’s butler/valet tells the coroner he saw who killed his employer and a few minutes later he is also murdered. When Chang Fang\, a Chinese pirate\, stages a raid on the town\, Eve uses the situation to shanghai Bob aboard her father’s vessel\, which is then taken by the pirates. Bob is taken to Chang’s stronghold with Eve\, who conceals herself in a large rug; when she reveals herself\, Chang orders the room cleared\, but she binds him hand and foot\, as she did earlier to Bob. Eve and Bob escape\, pursued by the pirate band. DESCRIPTION:“Stinky” Smith makes off with the prize money when his buddy\, “Knockout” Hansen loses a fight with Percival “Sailor” Scruggs. Hansen pursues him him a U.S. Navt recruiting office\, and\, the next thing they know\, both are in the Navy and aboard an overseas transport ship. Madelyn Phillips is on board and Scruggs is the the ship’s Master-of-Arms. They overhear a mysterious conversation between Madelyn and the ship’s radio officer. Later\, Madelun induces the pair to take her off the ship and into a row boat. She disappears and they are picked up by a French ship\, which sinks a German U-Boat. When the war ends they learn that Madelyn was an operative of the U.S. Secret Service. Live accompaniment provided by Chicagoland’s premiere organist Jay Warren!
