A Special Fundraiser Event Honoring John Prine and Supporting Arts Education

Des Plaines, IL – April 9, 2025 – Maywood Fine Arts invites music lovers, film enthusiasts, and supporters of the arts to a special one-night-only screening of How Lucky Can One Man Get at the historic Des Plaines Theatre in Des Plaines, Illinois. This exclusive fundraiser event will celebrate the legacy of singer-songwriter John Prine while raising essential funds for Maywood Fine Arts’ mission to provide quality arts education to children in the community.

The film features rare footage from John Prine’s unforgettable 2010 fundraising concert at Proviso East High School—his alma mater—where he performed to support Maywood Fine Arts in the wake of a devastating fire that affected their dance school. More than a concert film, How Lucky Can One Man Get captures the heart and generosity of an artist dedicated to giving back.

“This screening is not just about remembering John Prine’s incredible music; it’s about celebrating his generosity and the spirit of community,” said Lois Baumann, Executive Director of Maywood Fine Arts. “He gave us something to hold on to when we needed it most, and now we’re honored to share this special film with audiences while continuing our mission to bring arts education to kids who need it.”

Attendees will enjoy an evening filled with music, storytelling, and inspiration, all while supporting a cause that was close to Prine’s heart. Proceeds from the event will directly benefit Maywood Fine Arts, helping provide dance, music, drama, and visual arts programs to children of all backgrounds.
